Fiber Post Applications

Fillings made on teeth with a high loss of substance may fail. In this way, nails, screw-like structures applied with support from the existing or our own root canal treatment are called “posts” for teeth that are at risk in this way.

The post allows us to get support from the root of the tooth. It is planned and applied in the appropriate size to the channels in the root. The prosthetic superstructure made on it is also called “core”. The whole of this structure is called “post-core”. After root canal treatment is applied to a completely destroyed tooth using adhesive systems, successful treatments are performed with applications called "post-core" placed inside the root.

Fiber Post Applications

Since post applications are made inside the root, root canal treatment must be done.
There are two types of posts generally used. Metal post and fiber (aesthetic) post.
Fiber posts are applied in a single session with strong adhesives called resin cement, which is chemically bonded to the tooth. Cast post or prefabricated metal posts, on the other hand, are more physically attached to the tooth and require two sessions since cast posts are made in the laboratory.
After root canal treatment, a reinforced fiber post is placed up to 2/3 of the root canal. Thus, the root-supported coating does not fall off and its lifespan is extended.
It is used to strengthen teeth with excessive material loss before filling or coating in teeth with excessive material loss and before making full ceramic porcelain such as zirconium.
There is no need for anesthesia as fiber posts are applied to root canal treated teeth. Pain is not felt.
Fiber posts applied after root canal treatment can be finished within 15-20 minutes in a single session, and "post-cores" with high aesthetic properties and resistance can be made.
If there is a healthy bone structure and root canal treatment, fiber can be applied even if only the root remains.
  • If there is a fracture, inflammation or cyst in the root of the tooth
  • tooth root; short, curved or extremely thin
  • If root canal treatment cannot be performed up to the root tip due to obstruction in the roots
  • If the bone tissue supporting the tooth is problematic
  • If bone destruction is high, fiber post application is not correct.
Fiber material is a material that provides flexibility and durability together, which is also used for earthquake resistance in buildings. Therefore, the use of fiber posts instead of cast or prefabricated metal posts gives more aesthetic and durable results.
