Removable Prostheses

A removable prosthesis is an artificial device that can be attached and removed by the patient and replaces missing teeth. It combines health and art while responding to the aesthetic and functional needs of the person, seeking treatment and rehabilitation.

Total prosthesis in cases where all natural teeth are absent; partial dentures in cases where some main teeth are present; In cases where all the main teeth need to be extracted, if the patient does not want to be toothless, there are four types: immediate prosthesis and overdenture prosthesis applied on a few natural teeth or roots in the mouth, following some special preparations by the dentist.

Removable Prostheses

If the patient does not have problems with tooth wear or use in the prosthesis, the prosthesis can be adapted to the palate with special feeding materials. It can be repaired in problems such as prosthesis breakage or tooth loss. The repaired prosthesis is delivered to the patient within 1-2 days.
Removable dental prosthesis is not only applied to address the aesthetic concerns of the person, but also to order the mouth and tooth structure as it should be. It is specially designed for each patient and carried out under the control of a physician.
If porcelain veneer is not required, it takes 5-6 sessions, but the dentist can increase the number of sessions when he deems it necessary. After the prosthesis is inserted, it may take a few more sessions to adapt to the mouth. It takes about 1 month for the patient to become fully functional.
If porcelain veneer will not be applied, there is no need to make a needle (numbing process).
The life of the removable prosthesis will vary according to the material used during the construction of the prosthesis and the sensitivity shown in use. If the removable prosthetic tooth can be used for 5 years, it can be called a successful operation. They will need to be renewed as wear and breakage and loss of function will occur over time. In addition, the condition of the prosthesis should be observed with annual controls in order not to damage the oral tissues.
Under normal circumstances, this trend is expressed as “every six months”. Because the physician should examine the prostheses and oral tissues, see possible pathological changes, and perform the actions he deems appropriate if there is a change. Your doctor can change this period when he sees fit.
It is recommended to remove these prostheses before going to sleep at night and keep them in a bowl of water. Prostheses that are never removed can cause diseases such as fungal infection on the palate. When they are removed, they should not be wrapped in a napkin and kept in a dry environment, but should be kept in a container filled with water. Special cleaning tablets can be thrown into the water depending on the patient's request. However, the mechanical cleaning of the prosthesis with a brush must be done twice a day by the patient. It will even help them to use it without a long-term color change without removing it after each meal and washing it.
It would not be correct to give an exact time for the use of total dentures. The patient's prosthesis may become loose due to reasons such as sudden weight loss or osteoporosis.
Getting used to removable prostheses is primarily related to patient psychology and time. As time passes, it becomes easier to get used to the prosthesis. Generally, the patient accepts the prosthesis in a month and life becomes easier with the prosthesis.
In order to get used to the prosthesis quickly, it is recommended that the prosthesis be cleaned and put on immediately after meals and not removed at night. However, you need to remove the prosthesis when you are alone during the day or at night so that the soft tissues on which the prosthesis sits can rest.
